Nordic Tankers has its roots approximately five
decades ago as the company today is a consolidation of a
number of tanker companies of Nordic origin. Most notably herning
shipping that was started in 1963, and thus can celebrate its 50
anniversary in 2013. herning shipping became part of the Nordic
Tankers brand in 2012.
Also activities started by the companies Wonsild & Son
(established in 1904) and Copenhagen Tankers (established in 1992)
and acquired by Clipper Group in 2005, are activities that today
are an integrated part of Nordic Tankers anno 2012.
In other words a wealth of Nordic shipping experience, known for
its high safety, quality and reliability.
Below is a list of the most significant events bringing Nordic
Tankers to where it is today.
2012
In April 2012, a company owned by the investment company Triton
acquired the chemical tanker activities of the stock listed company
Nordic Tankers A/S. This included owned and operated vessels, all
commercial contracts, the entire organisation and the brand: Nordic
Tankers. At the time of the transaction Nordic Tankers operated
close to 90 chemical tanker vessels.
2011
In August 2011, the investment company Triton acquired herning
shipping. At the time of the transaction, herning shipping operated
close to 40 vessels.
2010
Clipper Group divested all of its tanker activities into the
stock-listed entity "Nordic Tankers A/S". After the transaction in
January 2010, Nordic Tankers operated close to 70 product and
chemical tanker vessels.
2005
Clipper acquires all the shares in Copenhagen Tankers A/S
(including Panamerican Tankers Inc.) and takes over Wonsild &
Son's tanker activities. All Clipper's tanker activities are
consolidated into Clipper Wonsild Tankers.
Under Clipper Group's ownership, the fleet and
operation were significantly expanded, and own in-house technical
management was established.
1992
Copenhagen Tankers was established by Wonsild & Son.
Copenhagen Tankers was until 2005 jointly owned by Eitzen Group,
Clipper Group and Wonsild & Son.
1963
To ensure a reliable supply for the family-owned oil company,
Uno-X, Vitta and Peder Lysgaard decided to purchase their first
vessel, the M/T Vitta Theresa, and this was the start of herning
shipping a.s.
1962
Wonsild and son was founded by Mr. Valdemar L. Wonsild and his
son, Jørgen Wonsild, but it was in 1962, when the shipbroker Niels
Victor became a partner that the tanker activities started. Since
then and until the sale to Clipper Group in 2005, Wonsild and Son
developed a substantial tanker business.
